Domain Registration Frequently Asked QuestionsQ. What is a Domain Name and why do I need one? A. The Domain Name System (DNS) helps users to find their way around the Internet. Every computer on the Internet has a unique address -just like a telephone number- which is a rather complicated string of numbers. It is called its IP address. But it is hard to remember everyone's IP address. The DNS makes it easier by allowing a familiar string of letters (the "domain name") to be used instead of the arcane IP address.
So instead of typing 66.201.69.107, you can type www.softwareprojects.com. It is a "mnemonic" device that makes addresses easier to remember.
Q. If you host my Domain name, do you also host my web site? A. Not necessarily. We do not host websites that you create elsewhere. Web Site hosting and Domain Name hosting are two different things.
Q. I need to forward (point) my domain name to my website. How do I setup URL forwarding? A. Once your domain is registered on our servers, you can use the built-in web-based administration panel to easily setup URL forwarding, so that anyone typing your domain into a browser, will get to your website.
Q. How long does it take to get set up? A. From the time
we receive your order, it may take up to 48 hours for your domain registration to propagate across the Internet. However, once active, unlike other platforms, with our solution - whenever you make changes to your domain records, they update instantly within 4 seconds across the entire Internet. A. While there are no guaranteed periods, it normally takes up to 29 days for a domain to become available again.
Q. What are your name servers and underlying infrastructure? A. The names of our name servers are as follows:
Q. What do I have to do if I would later like to transfer my domain names away from SoftwareProjects.com? A. To transfer your domain names to a different registrar, contact your new domain registration provider and ask them to initiate a 'Domain Transfer Request'. |
