How to: Transfer a domain name OUT of SoftwareProjectsMike Peters, 05-03-2007 |
We're sorry to hear you would like to move your domain-name to a different registrar. SoftwareProjects has partnered with best of breed domain registration providers to deliver unique features (instant propagation, multiple name servers for each domain) at unbeatable prices.
If there's anything we can change or improve to keep your business, please contact your SoftwareProjects account manager or contact our support personnel at support@softwareprojects.com and let us know. We're known to go above and beyond to make our customers happy.
To understand more about what domain names are all about, please visit our domain names FAQ page.
If you feel you've exhausted all options and would still like to move your domain-name to a different registrar, this guide will help explain what you need to do:
Step 1: Pick a new domain name registrar.
You need to pick a new "home" for your domain name(s). Domain name registrars are companies who host domain names for a low annual fee.
We recommend: GoDaddy, Network Solutions, Register.com and eNom
Step 2: Obtain an authorization code from SoftwareProjects to transfer your domain. These authorization codes are in place to protect you from a competitor trying to steal your domain name without your authorization. To obtain your authorization code please send an email to support@softwareprojects.com and include 'Requesting authorization code for DOMAIN.COM' in the subject line, replacing DOMAIN.COM with your domain name(s)
Step 3: Signup (create an account) with the new registrar you picked and select the 'Transfer a domain name' option. You will be required to enter your domain-name and pay for the transfer request.
Step 4: Within 24 to 48 hours, an email confirmation will be sent to the owner of the domain (your primary email-address). Once you receive this email-address, click the link inside the email message to approve the transfer.
Troubleshooting: If you don't get this email, check the domain whois for your domain and verify that it is your email-address listed under the registrant owner. If you see a different email-address listed, or if it is an email-address you no longer have access to, login to your SoftwareProjects account, click on the target domain and update the registrant email-address, then try again.
Step 5: Within another 24 to 48 hours, SoftwareProjects will approve the transfer and your domain transfer will be complete. You will receive another email from your new domain name registrar acknowledging the transfer has now completed successfuly.
