Products vs Listings

Mike Peters, 02-12-2007
To enable easy management of your products across multiple stores, SoftwareProjects Payment Center distinguishes between Products and Listings.

Products are all the different items you could possible sell. For example, "Maxim Magazine", "O Magazine" and "Tennis Ball"

Listings are pointers to a specific combination of product+options+store. For example, two listings for the "Maxim Magazine" master product may be: "Maxim Magazine 1 year subscription on eBay Marketplace" and "Maxim Magazine 1 year subscription on MagsForLess.com InstantEStore Store"

Why did we implement it this way?

Imagine you're selling the same product on 3 different market places (Amazon, eBay and your own website). You need to update your product image and price.

Typically this would require login to Amazon, login to eBay and login to your own website administration console, manually updating the image and price for this product in each marketplace separately.

SoftwareProjects Payment Center simplfies this process by keeping a master Product record that includes the product name, image, price & description. Listings serving as pointers to product+option+store. By updating the master Product image and setting target profit margins for each marketplace, the system will automatically connect to each store and make the necessary updates.

How to: Force an immediate update of a particular listing -

At times, you may want to force update of certain listings without waiting for synchronization process.

To do that, login to your SotwareProjects Payment center, locate the listing/s you'd like to update, then click 'Deactivate' followed by an 'Activate'. This will initiate a complete update of that listing on the target store/s.
