We've updated SPI login page... and why you should tooDawn Rossi, 02-12-2009 |
The SPI login page was updated today, going from a simple "type your email and password", to a full page showing recent announcements, system status, staff photos and different ways you can connect with us.
Why did we update our login page?
Because this is where you -- our users, kept coming back to.
If you run a community, forum, web service or any type of website that requires your users to login, consider the following:
* Your login page is probably one of the most popular pages of your website.
* Users are bookmarking the login page and going there directly, bypassing your homepage altogether.
* Your login page is the first place users look for information about any ongoing maintenance or issues they may be facing.
The old look & feel
Our old login page, was "just like any other login page". Clean, simple, only serving the single purpose for which it was created - allowing users to login to their SPI account.

Design Goals
Since the numbers were telling us, how popular the login page is, we wanted to accomplish the following design goals:
1. Clearly display recent SPI announcements and updates on the login page
2. Make it very easy to contact us directly from the login page
3. Better connect with users via the login page, inviting users to friend-us on the various social networks we are part of.
4. Display a real time status of all services.
The End Result

You can check it out here.
