Netscape: Gain Quality Backlinks and Traffic

Tyler Banfield, 05-17-2007
Although Alexa ranks Netscape.com as is the 539th most popular web site on the internet, there is a good chance that you haven’t utilized it to its full potential (or even visited it at all). While it gets five million unique visitors a month and boasts over 230,000 members, many internet marketers have not taken the time to fully explore the web site because they spend all of their time focusing on Digg.

At first glance, Netscape may seem extremely similar to Digg. While it is a socially driven news web site, it is actually quite different from Digg. While Digg focuses mainly on technology, Netscape is centered around the latest news and politics. Additionally, Digg’s user base is primarily made up of younger, tech savvy males, but Netscape has a much more varied community of users.

In order to start gaining backlinks and traffic for your own web site from Netscape, you first need to take the time to build a quality profile. Because Netscape is run by a community of real people, they will quickly get rid of any blatant attempts at spam. Therefore, you need to start by submitting stories from established web sites (CNBC, ABC, etc.), commenting on other stories and adding friends. Once you have established yourself and have gotten a feel for how Netscape works, you can start experimenting with submitting some of your own material. Keep in mind though, it is going to take a great piece of link bait for you to make it to the front page!
