The Pros and Cons of Second Tier PPC Engines

Tyler Banfield, 05-01-2007
Since you are reading this post, chances are you already know about Google Adwords, MSN AdCenter and Yahoo Search Marketing. However, there is a good chance that you have never heard of 7Search. The reason is because 7Search is one of many second tier pay per click search engines. Although they get much less publicity than the major search engines, second tier PPC engines can be a great way to get a lot of traffic for not a lot of money. However, if you are not careful, you can also burn through a lot of money using these engines. Here are a few things you should know about these PPC engines:

-The biggest appeal of second tier engines is that you can purchase most keywords for $0.01 to $0.10. Obviously, this means that you can get a lot more clicks for your money.

-One of the downsides is that second tier pay per click engines do not send nearly as much traffic as the big three. Even with a large budget, you may not be able to get as much traffic as you want.

-The other problem that plagues some of these engines is the quality of traffic they send. Before opening an account with any second tier engine, make sure you take a little time to find out what their reputation is. Some of these PPC engines have a terrible reputation, while others do not. Additionally, many people find that they send traffic that converts well for some niches, but the traffic that is sent in other niches almost never converts.

-In most situations, the only way to find out whether or not a second tier engine is going to work for you is by testing it out. Most of these engines allow you to open accounts for $25 or less, and because the keywords cost so little, this is more than enough to determine whether or not it is going to be a good investment. By analyzing your conversions and the traffic that is sent to your landing page, you can decide whether or not to spend any more money on that specific engine. If the traffic that is sent to you is obviously not legitimate, don't hesitate to pursue a refund from the company. Even though they are second tier, these PPC engines are still accountable for the traffic they sell you.
